Second Life Blog - FATAL Newness

So for a while now I've been a member of the store group for Blueberry, and when she (Blueberry that is) mentioned a friend of hers was opening a store, I went to have a look. I liked what I saw and joined the group. That store is FATAL. Not that it's deadly, that's the store's name, 'FATAL'.

The other day I was puttering along in one of the sims where I roleplay, and the group chat for FATAL popped up. There was some general chatting, and then the store owner, Fatalityx, asked if anyone in the group had a blog and/or Flickr. I said I do, and she sent me a box of stuff to peek at.

Well, not only do I actually -like- her stuff, I like writing, and I like promoting skilled designers in SL, so here I am, writing about the stuff in the box.

First off, there was the super-cute skirt set, 'FATAL Leather Skirt & Bra Top', which not only had a nice fit for mesh, but looks amazing. Even with the Standard Sizing Shapes it can be really hard to find mesh clothing with just the right fit. 'FATAL' is the second store I've found so far, the first being 'Blueberry'.

So of course at this point I was curious about the other two boxes I got, and proceeded to dive into them to see what it might be.

One of them had a comfy tank top in two different colours, and two different prints, so that made a total of four different tank tops in a single box. The other box thankfully had some pants so I didn't have to walk around pantsless. I have found that mesh pants are the one thing I have the most difficult time finding. At least pants that fit well. I don't use a standard sizing shape, although I have modified my shape to use more or less the standard sizing numbers of a size L. It seems most designers that make mesh pants just don't care about us larger gals (guys to? I really wouldn't know, for obvious reasons), since even the L sizes seem too small.

Is it because there are more than one set of "standard" sizes out there? I don't know. But here's one that does care, and makes really nice clothes to. Thank you, Fatalityx!

Second Life Hair Fair 2012 - The Petite Perspective

So I went to Hair Fair to pick up some free hair. I rather expected to buy at least one hair, but I didn't see any that I felt were worth spending my hard-earned lindens on. Thus, this post will be about the freebies offered by the different designers.

As a Petite, it can be hard to find nice hair that fits your style. I RP as a pixie with my Petite mesh avatar, as well as model for Carriage Trade Miniatures, so I need all different kinds of hair to fit what I'm wearing.

I actually expected to find more hair for Petites, or at least resizeable hair that could be made to fit, but I was sadly disappointed. Out of all the designers at the Hair Fair, only five (5!) had hair for Petites, or hair that could be resized to fit.

Alli & Ali was of course one of them, they being one of the most popular stores for Petite hair, since all their hairstyles are resizeable, and they additionally have started putting out Petite-sized versions of both older styles, and new releases. Here are two of the styles offered by them, one Petite size and one full size style that was sized down.

Another designer that has quite a few Petite hairstyles at their store is ChiChickies. Their Petite line is called Little Chickies. Here's their Petite freebie for Hair Fair 2012:

HINAKO is a store I just recently became aware of, thanks to the group Violet Mafia. They had a really cute hairstyle that was resizeable to Petite size.

INK was a new store for me, had never heard of them before Hair Fair, but I really liked their freebie hairstyle, which was also resizeable to Petite size. I thought it was a very cute style, that fit my pixie character perfectly.

But the one hairstyle that I really fell in love with, was also from a store I had never heard of before, Hairoin. It was a fullsized hair, but resizeable fortunately. Here's a picture of it.

And that was all for Petite sized hairs at Hair Fair. At least as far as freebies go. Alli & Ali, and ChiChickies/Little Chickies, had some for sale, but none that I wanted to spend lindens on. Not that they were unappealing in any way, they were just not the right style for my pixie character, nor for my modeling.

Oddly enough, EMO-tions didn't offer any Petite styles for sale, or as a gift. I had expected it from them, since they were one of the first hair designers to start making hair for Petites.

All in all, putting myself through the lag and confusion of Hair Fair 2012 was kind of worth it. I came out a few hairs richer, and with LMs to a couple of new hair stores that I will have to visit.
